Herndon, of Tallmadge, Ohio, competed in the marathon as a tribute to the reminiscences of a few adult males he knew although he served as a Marine in Afghanistan. He informed the History-Courier in Portage County, Ohio, that whenever he feels like supplying up he just repeats their names: Mark Juarez, Matthew Ballard and Rupert Hamer.
Herndon crossed the line at three hours and 38 minuets.

“I run in honor of them,” Herndon advised the Record-Courier. “They are not right here any more. I am below, and I am equipped. I am blessed to nevertheless have all my limbs. I can still be active. I come across fuel in the easy plan that I can operate. Some cannot.”

Herndon crossed the complete line with a time of three hrs and 38 minutes to entire the 26.2 miles. CNN affiliate WBZ explained once he was above the yellow and blue line he was lifted into a wheelchair and offered healthcare notice.

He wore the past names of his comrades on tags on his operating footwear.

“I really feel like if I am not managing, then I am executing anything mistaken with my everyday living,” Herndon informed the File-Courier. “If I get a warmth cramp though jogging or my ft hurt or I am receiving exhausted, I just hold declaring their names out loud to myself. They went by means of substantially even worse, so I run for them and their people.”
