After zero points and zero goals from the first three games of the season, coach Christian Eichner's team achieved their first success on Saturday (October 17, 2020). The Baden, who had never started a season with four defeats, left the last place in the table for the time being.
Philipp Hofmann brought the Karlsruhe derby in front of 1,200 fans in the Wildpark with the first chance to score in the third minute. After a cross from Marco Djuricin's right, the striker was spot on and scored from close range.
A little later Djuricin would have made it 2-0 early on, but failed from a tight angle to Sandhausen goalkeeper Martin Fraisl, who then saved against Hofmann in dire need.
Sandhausen comes into play, Karlsruhe scores
After a quarter of an hour, the guests came into the game better. After some nice preparatory work by Daniel Keita-Ruel, Diego Contento failed because of KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck. The sand houses took over the command and attacked the Karlsruhe earlier. The SVS was also more alert in the duels. The result: more possession.
But then the KSC had the next big chance. Hofmann hit the post after about half an hour after Jérôme Gondorf's preparatory work. In the 30th minute, Dominik Kother then increased to 2-0 after a corner – right into the urge phase of the sand houses.
