Olaf Scholz (SPD): Pragmatist ret. – column

Who as SPD-A politician who wants to become Chancellor would do well not to give too much to the love of comrades. It is more important that the citizens grant him economic expertise. So held it Helmut Schmidt and Gerhard Schröder. And that's how it went for a long time Olaf Scholz in front. The finance minister presented himself as a pragmatist in the middle for whom a flourishing economy was more important than applause at social democratic party congresses.

But that has changed since the SPD bosses Norbert Walter-Borjans and Saskia Esken have proclaimed candidate for chancellor. As a thank you, Scholz now wants to lead the tax election campaign that the two party leaders have long been calling for. Since they came into office last December, they have been talking about higher inheritance and wealth taxes and a new property levy. And so Scholz is now advocating that the wealthy "make a higher contribution to the financing of the community" in the future. It may be that the new tone of the finance minister contributes to more unity in the SPD top. In any case, it is the opposite of what the economy currently needs.
