the western wall

A wall in the old city of Jerusalem (see also Jerusalem), whose stones may have formed part of the Temple of Solomon. Sometimes called the Wailing Wall, it is visited in great numbers by Jews (see also Jews) as a holy place that commemorates their sorrows from earliest times.
